On today’s special segment, we have Matthias Schilling of headline, Matthias, can you tell us a story about a founder who pulled off something so amazing that it shocked you? What did they do? And how does that make you think and assess new founders that you’re investing in? Yeah,

0:51
I mean, you know, it’s interesting. I mean, shocking is a big word, right? I mean, it’s like, I mean, all my founders have shocked me in some ways, you know? I mean, I think I look for the and they go, you know, I mean, a segment. I mean, it’s the largest customer database in the world that’s been built by, you know, very young guys that had purely technic background. I mean, I think there was an incredible endeavor, you know, they pivoted multiple times. Sonos, you know, I the founder, had a product obsession that was just incredible. And, you know, it took us, I mean, very long time, because we had took us long, very long time to beat that market. And I really respect his patience and determination and conviction, you know, the founder of NGO, sadly, you know, passed away recently from ALS. I mean, he had this incredible wisdom and build an organization in the Midwest, you know, and it was very proud of it. And, you know, all the venture gap said, you have to move to second Valley, you know, we all, we all know that, you know, you can’t hire smart people enough in in the Midwest. And he said, Yeah, fuck you sorry we did it, you know, we hired an amazing team building incredible culture. It was a wonderful experience to go through that wisdom, you know, I have, I have stories of founders in Brazil, you know, with that come out of, you know, they grew up in a in in a favela, which is kind of, you know, very, very poor, you know, the founder, one of the founders of Pismo, and then build, you Know, a leading global banking infrastructure, and we sold it for a billion dollar cash to visa last year after six, seven years. And what that does, you know, what, how, what that does to a person? And you know this, this story of complete, you know, something completely impossible. You know, to me, also the the effect I have when I see a product. I mentioned that earlier, right? When I when I see a product, I can see the future, you know, I get that. And when I enter way more, I have to say, I can totally see where that’s going. I love the experience. And, you know, I did have it, you know, when I interacted first with chat, GPT. And, you know, often it’s these moments when you can’t really see it yourself, and then suddenly it’s there. And you said, Jesus, I should have known this. And these moments are incredible, and it requires unbelievable people to build that

on. Today’s special segment, we have Godard Abel of g2 Goddard, if you had to choose one visionary founder or leader that has inspired you most. Who is it and what about their leadership approach resonates? And

3:24
I do think it’s, you know, Marc Benioff at Salesforce, probably because I’ve gotten known the best when he acquired my last company, steel brick. And I do think also, I mean, he’s been at it 25 years now, and as I mentioned earlier, he’s back in founder mode. He’s all over AI, Agent force, and he’s also always been very conscious about building a positive culture. He called it the Ohana, the Salesforce family, plus doing the 111, giving back. That’s we’ve also adopted pledge 1% now with g2 so I think it’s 125, years of perseverance building a true global market leader public company that I still hope to do. So I still draw, you know, inspiration from from Mark every day,

what a force.

4:10
On today’s special segment, we have Manish, Patel of Nava ventures, Manish, who is one of the most visionary or inspiring founders you’ve worked with, and what makes them unique?

4:18
Oh, hands down. Larry Page. I mean, I was lucky enough to run the corporate OKR process at Google with him, and, you know, his vision for what the world could be, and the idea to think big and the importance of technology in the world is just, it’s amazing. And to kind of see somebody who was at the right moment in the right time in his life, web 2.0 right building a company that could take advantage of this massive wave, and the importance of that prepared mind has deeply influenced me, amazing
